In a meeting between the Governor of the National Transparency Authority, Mr. Angelos Binis, and the Minister of Tourism, Mr.Harris Theocharis, on the strengthening of the Internal Audit mechanisms of the Ministry of Tourism, Minister Mr. Harris Theocharis stressed that the strengthening of accountability and integrity mechanisms is a key operational priority and that he looks forward to close cooperation with the National Transparency Authority, to provide expertise and advisory services for the creation of an effective Internal Audit Unit (IAU), as well as further cooperation on strengthening accountability and transparency mechanisms in all structures and programmes of the Ministry of Tourism. In particular, the main lines of action were formulated as follows:
α) Establishment of a joint working group with the aim of properly formulating the requirements of the Law on the Executive State for the establishment of an Internal Audit Unit in the new Organization of the Ministry of Tourism.
b) The signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation to formulate a concrete action plan to strengthen transparency and accountability mechanisms in the structures of the Ministry of Tourism, including the implementation of actions to ensure the effective functioning of the Internal Audit Unit of the Ministry.
The Governor of the National Transparency Authority, Mr. Angelos Binis, noted that the tourism sector is one of the main pillars for growth and job creation and therefore the Hellenic National Tourism Authority is committed to actively support any initiative of the Ministry of Tourism that aims to improve its internal structures, systems and procedures in order to achieve its operational objectives, based on the rational management of financial resources and with full respect to the expectations of the Greek society.
