With the participation of representatives from 33 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and USA, the NTA hosted an online event entitled "National Anti-Corruption Strategies and Action Plans: From Planning to Implementation and Evaluation". The event took place in the framework of the 9th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, which will be held from 13 to 17 December in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, with the main objective of sharing and disseminating knowledge, experiences and practices in the field of preventing and combating corruption.
The NTA Governor, Mr. Angelos Binis, moderated the discussion, while the panel included Mr. Julien Betolaud from the French Anti-Corruption Authority, Mr. Lawrence Chung from the Hong Kong-China Independent Anti-Corruption Authority, Mr. Sorin Tanase from the Romanian Ministry of Justice and Professor Spyridon Flogoitis from the European Public Law Organisation.
The discussion focused on the main challenges and key success factors in the process of designing, monitoring and evaluating national anti-corruption strategies. The active involvement of all stakeholders, the building of a climate of trust with society, the support of the political leadership, the development of specific measures in policy areas considered to be at high risk of corruption, as well as raising awareness of anti-corruption issues in society were highlighted as key points for the rational design and successful implementation of a comprehensive National Anti-Corruption Strategy. The ensuing dialogue with public participation underlined the importance of conducting regular surveys to measure trends and citizens' perceptions against corruption, as well as good practices for designing and implementing information and awareness-raising activities with the active participation of private sector entities and civil society.
