The National Transparency Authority, in the framework of the inspections carried out for compliance with the anti-smoking legislation and in cooperation with members of the Hellenic Police, carried out during the evening hours of Friday 20.09.2024 and the early morning hours of Saturday 21.09.2024, compliance inspections with the existing provisions on protection from tobacco products in Athens (1st and 2nd Municipal Community, areas Monastiraki and Thiseio).
A total of fifty-two (52) businesses were inspected.
Fifteen (15) violations were found and fines totalling €7,100 were imposed.
Specifically, during the on-site inspection, the following were imposed:
- Six (6) fines of €3,000 to business managers for failure to keep a smoking reference book (6x€500)
- four (4) fines of €2,000 to business operators for failure to take other prevention measures (removal of ashtrays) on their premises (4x€500)
- three (3) fines of €1,500 to business operators for incomplete posting of no-smoking signs (3x€500)
- one (1) fine of €500 to a business operator for tolerating a smoker
- one (1) fine of €100 to a natural person for the violation of smoking in a place where smoking is prohibited
Controls regarding the correct observance of the anti-smoking legislation continue with the aim of protecting public health and healthy competition between businesses.
