The NTA carried out an audit in two (2) Elderly Care Units (of a for-profit nature) in the Region of Attica. In one of them the audit was carried out following a complaint.
The object of the audit was to ascertain the quality and adequacy of the facilities, equipment and services offered, the living conditions of the elderly, as well as compliance with the licensing procedure of the Units.
Finding during the audit:
- One Unit did not have an establishment and operating licence and the other did not have an operating permit. Despite the fact that the relevant Regional Section had issued decisions imposing fines and stopping their operation, while informing the competent Public Prosecutor's Office, the Units were still operating
- They did not have a certificate of (active) fire protection from the competent Fire Brigade
- They were not staffed with the requisite number and type of personnel (nurses, physiotherapist, social worker, psychologist)
The Audit Reports were forwarded to:
- the Athens Prosecutor's Office for correlation with the corresponding case files
- the relevant Regional Sections of the Attica Region for actions within their competences
