On Sunday, 13-08-2023, audit teams formed by the NTA Interim Governor carried out on-site inspections in areas of Eastern Attica to examine compliance with the legislation in force regarding: (a) the granting of the right to the use of the beach for the exercise of activities serving bathers or public recreation and ensuring the communal use of the beach and (b) compliance with the general relevant obligations and restrictions.
All the businesses audited had concluded agreements with the competent authorities for the simple use of the beach and shore. However, it was found that of these:
- A percentage of 83% had developed umbrella stands/sunbeds on the seashore in an area larger than the allocated area of 86 sq. m. up to 800 sq. m. per case.
- A percentage of 50%, occupied an area several times larger than the allocated area for the operation of a mobile/ wheeled or towed canteen.
- A percentage of 83% did not comply with the specified percentage of the granted shore coverage, which amounts to 60% and for the areas included in the Natura Network to 30% of the granted area.
- A percentage of 67% did not have a sign with the plan and photo of the concession area, as defined by the legislation so that any violation of the concession boundaries could be easily noticed.
- In one case, a question arises as to fulfilment of the requirement for a free area of 50% of the total.
During the audits, tax (17% of those checked) and insurance (67%) infringements were also detected.
For the above findings/violations, the legal procedures for imposing the prescribed sanctions and taking the necessary administrative measures will be followed.
