Following a complaint about the sale of an expired pharmaceutical product for infants, the NTA conducted an audit at a private pharmacy in the Attica Region. The objective was to verify compliance with regulations governing the storage and disposal of medicines and other products, as well as the procedure for withdrawing expired medicines.
The on-site inspection revealed instances of non-compliance with pharmaceutical legislation and the obligations of pharmacists contracted with the National Organisation for Healthcare Services Provision (EOPYY).
In particular, the following violations were identified:
- Seven (7) boxes of expired pharmaceutical products were found to be stored in the same area as other items. Of these, four (4) related to the infant formula mentioned in the complaint.
- Twenty-three (23) cases of pharmaceutical products from which the authenticity strips had been detached, without being delivered to the insured persons, even though the prescriptions had been filled.
- Four (4) unfilled electronic prescriptions were identified.
The Audit Report was subsequently forwarded to the Athens Pharmaceutical Association for consideration of disciplinary action, the National Organisation for Healthcare Services Provision (EOPYY) and to the National Organisation for Medicines for the imposition of administrative sanctions.
