The National Transparency Authority (NTA) participated in the 13th Meeting of the UN Convention Against Corruption Implementation Review Group, which takes place from 13-17 June in Vienna.
In this context, the Governor of the NTA, Mr. Angelos Binis presented the initiatives undertaken by the country to strengthen the institutional framework regarding the fight against Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions, making particular reference to the recent amendment of the Criminal Code and the tightening of the penalties provided for the offence of bribery. In addition, reference was made to the procedure followed to identify, monitor and investigate cases of bribery reported to foreign media, through the cooperation of the NTA with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the "Business Integrity" initiative to conduct a series of targeted workshops and webinars for public and private sector executives to share best practices for strengthening mechanisms and safeguards to ensure integrity, transparency and accountability as a building block of modern corporate culture and organisation.
Finally, the important steps taken in the last three years to make use of digital tools and applications to prevent and deter corruption, such as the E-pothen platform (Assets Declaration Platform), the Transparency Register for "Lobbying" (Law 4829/2021) and the development of secure reporting channels to protect whistleblowers, were presented.
The NTA invests in deepening international cooperation to effectively fight corruption and leads efforts in this regard both at EU and international level through its participation in the governing and strategy-making bodies of major international organisations and working groups.
