The new internal online platform (intranet) of the National Transparency Authority (NTA) of the Anti-Fraud Coordination Service (AFCOS) (https://afcos.aead.gr) was launched in April 2021. This platform is a modern and flexible tool for communication, exchange of views and enhanced cooperation between the competent national authorities and services responsible for fighting fraud and protecting the financial interests of the European Union (EU) in both the revenue and expenditure sectors.
The networking platform enables all these authorities to communicate and exchange best practices and approaches, promoting immediate and effective coordination on matters of shared competence or common interest.
It should be noted that the Greek AFCOS has investigated 166 reports and detected irregularities resulting in the recovery of approximately €6,800,000 and the termination of six (6) co-funded projects.
The online portal incorporates the latest technology to ensure:
- Facilitating communication, exchange of information and cooperation between its members in order to prevent and fight fraud,
- Improving coordination between relevant national authorities and providing structured support for the operational activities of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF),
- Carrying out training and capacity building initiatives and research activities on matters of common interest,
- Supporting consultations with a view to making proposals and/or suggesting measures for the effective protection of the EU's financial interests.
According to its founding Law (Law 4622/2019) and the Regulation of the European Parliament, the NTA has been designated as the Hellenic Anti-Fraud Coordination Service (AFCOS). It serves as the competent institution for coordinating all structures and services related to defending the EU's financial interests and the proper management of European funds. The NTA collaborates directly with the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and provides support to the European Public Prosecutor's Office. The new online portal is expected to significantly contribute to networking between the NTA and the relevant national authorities of the Member States and European institutions.
The platform has been designed and implemented by NTA’s executives at no cost to the Greek citizens, taking into account the priorities of all stakeholders. This action, as well as a number of others, is part of the broader digital transformation of N.T.A., which is progressing rapidly.
