A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Mrs. Niki Kerameos, and the Governor of the National Transparency Authority, Mr. Angelos Binis, with the aim of working together to enhance transparency and accountability in the field of education, as well as to further promote the principles and values of public integrity through the education system. The signing of the memorandum is part of a series of actions developed between the Ministry and the National Transparency Authority, which also includes the provision of expertise and advisory services by the Authority in matters of internal audit and integrity mechanisms.
The cooperation activities involve the development of a culture of integrity and accountability through seminars, workshops and educational programs at all educational levels. Additionally, a Special Sectoral Strategy is being developed to raise awareness against corruption through education.
The Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Mrs. Niki Kerameos, noted that "the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation with the National Transparency Authority signifies the further deepening of our cooperation and represents another opportunity to encourage , raise awareness and promote together the conceptual toolkit focusing on values such as integrity, transparency, meritocracy, justice and equality, with the aim of developing a culture of integrity and responsibility from early childhood". The NTA’s Governor, Mr. Angelos Binis, said: "The role of our education system is crucial in shaping and transmitting the values of our society. The school community is the most appropriate place for elementary and secondary school students to be introduced to the basic principles of public integrity, so that as adult citizens they can both demand and actively support transparency and accountability in all aspects of public and private life in our country".
