The Minister of Migration and Asylum, Mr. Notis Mitarakis, and the Governor of the National Transparency Authority (NTA) , Mr. Angelos Binis, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Migration and Asylum and the NTA.
The purpose of the Memorandum of Cooperation is to improve the Internal Audit System and in particular the Internal Audit Unit of the Ministry, in order to enhance transparency and prevent and deter maladministration, fraud and corruption.
The Memorandum aims to enhance the competences and skills of the staff of the Internal Audit Unit of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum through training and development. Additionally, it provides advisory support and expertise from the National Transparency Authority. The Memorandum ensures full compliance with the legal framework on confidentiality, secrecy, and intellectual property rights.
In the margins of the meeting, both parties agreed on the need to identify and assess risks in legal migration procedures, the appointment of an integrity advisor to the Ministry of Migration and Asylum, in accordance with the provisions of Law 4795/2021, as well as further cooperation to include the Ministry's actions in the National Anticorruption Plan.
Finally, it was announced that two staff members of the newly established Internal Audit Department of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum have been selected to obtain the required certificate of audit competence by successfully completing the special training programme developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Centre for Public Administration and Local Government (EKDDA).
