The Minister of Interior, Mr. Takis Theodorikakos and the NTA Governor, Mr. Angelos Binis, joined forces with the Mayor of Athens, Mr. Kostas Bakoyannis, in another important action for the strengthening of the National Internal Audit System.
The Municipality of Athens utilizes modern mechanisms to ensure the efficient operation of all its departments in order to improve the services provided to citizens and businesses, while respecting the requirements of transparency and accountability. In this context, it utilizes the expertise and advisory services of NTA in order to upgrade the operational procedures and capabilities of the Municipality's Internal Audit activity.
The Minister of the Interior, Mr Theodorikakos, emphasized “We are supporting and upgrading local government with all our strength, with new financial tools, resources, responsibilities and personnel. And, of course, this requires the strengthening of transparency in local government. It is very important that the NTA and the Municipality of Athens have taken the initiative to proceed with internal audit procedures with the aim of transparency and good governance”.
“The efforts to modernise our services, which have already borne fruit, are not only aimed at serving citizens without queues and bureaucracy. It has at its core transparency and access for all citizens, at all levels of our municipality's operations. We remain committed to these objectives and that is why we are creating alliances that move in this direction," stressed Mr. Bakoyannis, Mayor of Athens.
The NTA Governor Mr. A. Binis, thanked the Minister of the Interior and the Mayor of Athens for their trust and stressed that for the country's municipalities, internal audit is also a tool for regaining citizens’ trust, since it highlights the opportunities for improvement actions that have a direct impact on the quality of daily life of the citizens.
