The NTA, in consultation with the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection & Crisis Management and the President of National Public Health Organization (EODY), conducted an audit on Thursday, 01.10.2020, at the “Attiki” Elderly Care Unit in Agios Panteleimonas, Athens. The objective was to investigate the conditions that permitted the introduction of SARS COV-2 into the Unit, leading to virus spread among guests and staff.
During the on-site audit by the NTA Inspectors, it was noted that COVID-19 diagnostic tests were being conducted by NPHO (EODY) staff while patients were being evacuated to reference hospitals.
The Authority's Inspectors-Auditors proceeded to collect and record data through written examination of persons, on-the-spot observation and autopsy. The findings indicate that the COVID-19 dispersal was due to the provision of work by an employee who was not supposed to report for work and who allegedly resigned and left the business. Furthermore, it was noted that an individual residing in the Elderly Care Unit had contacted personnel at a local flea market situated outside the Unit without authorisation.
It should be noted that during the on-site inspection, the staff responsible for the administrative and financial operations of the Unit were under lockdown (stay-at-home order), following instructions from the relevant authorities. As a result, it was not possible to examine them and provide the requested documents and documentation.
The audit is ongoing and will include all the requirements of the institutional framework for licensing, organising and operating this Elderly Care Unit.
