The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE Greece) held an online conference entitled "How to cure Procurement Fraud" under the auspices of the National Transparency Authority (NTA).
The conference aimed to highlight the critical points and weaknesses that maximise the risk of fraud in the procurement-supply-contract cycle in both the public and private sectors of our country. The speakers at the conference had the opportunity to analyse practical methods of preventing, deterring and detecting corruption throughout the procurement cycle, to present current trends and advanced systems related to Procurement Transformation, and to express their views on the objectives of the new National Public Procurement Strategy.
NTA’s Governor, Mr. Angelos Binis, highlighted the importance of building an integrated internal audit system and using tools such as data analysis, designing audit missions based on risk analysis and developing audit programmes for each stage of the procurement process to improve procurement operations. Increasing transparency in the procurement of goods, services and public works contract is a strategic priority for the public institutions involved and a key pillar for revitalising the economy and creating new jobs in the post-COVID-19 era.
