NTA’s Participation in the 89th Thessaloniki International Fair with Two Interactive Thematic Workshops: “Corruption Affects Us All – Your Opinion Matters!”

More than 350 visitors of the International Fair had the opportunity to participate in the two interactive workshops organized by the National Transparency Authority (NTA) titled “Corruption Affects Us All – Your Opinion Matters!”

The events took place at the NTA’s booth on September 6 and 7, 2025, with the participation of representatives from various organizations, professionals from the public and private sectors, and citizens.

Participants took part in a live vote, answering short questions regarding incidents of corruption and the fight against them, watched the voting results in real time, and posed their own questions to the Authority’s officials regarding the NTA’s initiatives as well as the actions being implemented to strengthen transparency.

Greetings were delivered by the Governor of the National Transparency Authority, Ms. Alexandra Rogakou, who noted that “the goal is to raise social awareness and promote active citizen participation in shaping a culture of transparency and integrity. Corruption is everyone’s concern and requires systematic, collective, and sustained efforts to prevent and combat it.”

Mr. George Kasapas, Deputy Head of the Strategic Planning and Behavioral Analysis Directorate, emphasized that “citizen engagement in the fight against corruption is critical, emphasizing that citizens can safely report incidents of maladministration and corruption to the NTA, as the Authority’s modern online portal ensures the complete anonymity of whistleblowers.”

Ms. Mary Konstantinidou, Head of the General Directorate of Integrity and Accountability, referred to the public’s lack of trust in institutions regarding the effective fight against corruption, as well as societal tolerance or indifference toward corrupt practices.

As she said, “the National Transparency Authority (NTA) recognizes this complex challenge and is taking an active role in preventing and changing this situation by promoting the restoration of trust in institutions through internal control mechanisms, strengthening active citizen participation by creating safe and reliable reporting mechanisms, and fostering values of integrity from the earliest stages of education through educational programs and awareness campaigns in schools, academic institutions, and public bodies, and implementing integrity policies and anti-corruption strategies.”

Ms. Konstantina Mastrogianni, Head of the General Directorate of Financial and Administrative Services and e-Governance, focused on the operation of the internal whistleblower reporting channel and its importance in strengthening the organization’s integrity and accountability safeguards.

The active participation and positive response of the public to the events in Thessaloniki International Fair serve as a strong incentive for the NTA to continue its work and undertake similar initiatives in the future.
