The NTA’s participation the 4th meeting of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities Executive Committee, which took place on 26th April 2023, was successfully completed.
During the meeting, the importance of open communication channels between the anti-corruption authorities promoting public integrity and cooperation with personalities from civil society and academia was reaffirmed. The NTA will contribute to further outward-looking of the Association and its interconnection with international networks in which the ΝΤΑ is active, such as the Network of Corruption Prevention Authorities of Council or Europe and other fora on transparency and accountability in the public sphere such as the OECD's Senior Public Integrity Officials. In addition, the participation of a Greek academic professor in the short list of personalities who will participate in the work of the Executive Committee has been secured.
The IAACA is the world’s largest network of anti-corruption authorities with more than 150 members from around the world. The Association's mission is to promote the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption and to provide consultancy and technical support for implementation to its members. Since January 2022, the ΝΤΑ has been elected as a full member of the Executive Committee of the Association, becoming the first Greek public body to participate in the decision-making body of the IAACA.
The NTA Interim Gonernor responding to an official invitation from the presiding Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) of Hong Kong, which is the most recognized and successful public anti-corruption body, held technical working meetings with the Chief Executive and senior officials agreeing to initiate preparatory actions to plan know-how exchange activities in thematic areas of mutual interest such as the elaboration and implementation of national anti-corruption strategies, conducting corruption perception surveys and strategies to raise awareness of the multidimensional impact of corruption among citizens and businesses.
In the same direction, bilateral meetings were held with the heads of counterparts from Singapore, Malaysia and South Africa focusing on possible areas of cooperation. In this context, mutual exchange of good practices was proposed in a number of policy areas such as whistleblower protection practices, integrity risk management, development of strategic interventions to promote transparency and public awareness methodologies and tools, where the NTA is already active and implementing interventions.
In the margins of the above-mentioned work, the NTA Interim Governor had a brief interaction with the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, as the city’s official name is, to whom she symbolically handed over information material in Chinese regarding the NTA's mission and work. Mr. Lee, for his part, expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the presence of the Greek delegation and its active participation.
Finally, in a working meeting between Ms. Rogkakou and Ms. Brigitte Strobel-Shaw, Chief of Corruption and Economic Crime Branch of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), who also participated in the Executive Committee, the excellent level of cooperation between the two Authorities was reaffirmed and it was agreed to explore areas of future synergies, building on already implemented projects such as the successful student
