The Code of Conduct for Elected Bodies of Local Government meets the need for a model Code of Conduct for elected bodies of local government. With respect to the status and office of elected officials, as they derive directly from their popular mandate, the Code has been prepared on the basis of best international practices and standards, in an effort to ensure that local government elected officials respect the principle of legality and defend the public interest through their actions, performing their duties with honesty, integrity and good faith.
